Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic, is also a public speaking event organizer. Feminist Frequency was founded by Sarkeesian. The website hosts videos featuring commentary and analysis of the depictions of women in the media and popular culture of today. Anita Sarkeesian a Canadian American media critic. She is the creator and director-general of Feminist Frequency an educational, non-profit site that examines the representation of women within popular stories of culture. She's committed to removing stereotypes of women as they are depicted in pop culture. In addition she aims to create the awareness of harassment on social media targeted at women and those who are marginalized. Holding a master's degree in political and social thought from York University Sarkeesian is also well-known as a sought-after speaking engagement and has given talks at the TEDxWomen XOXO festival and The United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. Feminist Frequency was launched on the 9th of September 2009 by Sarkeesian, university student who has been involved in topics concerning gender and feminism since a lengthy period of. She had a plan to launch a web series that would examine gender representation in video games and found herself the target of a harassment online campaign. She was not deterred by the harassment, in fact it only reinforced her determination to be feminist and media critic. The award-winning journalist has received numerous accolades in recognition of her many significant contributions to the world of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian is an award nominated media critic as well as the co-founder of Feminist Frequency an educational nonprofit which studies the portrayals of women in pop culture and the narratives that surround them.
